Three amateur divers, exploring a deep
reef in Sodwana Bay, South Africa, sighted and photographed a six foot long
coelacanth while at a depth of 104 meters (!). On later visits, divers
photographed three others, from 1 to 1.8 meters in length. But the cost was
high. A diver perished as the result on an "uncontrolled ascent". (Ed
note: Diving below 30-40 meters is risky business and to dive deeper,
without high tech "air" and shipside facilities, is suicidal.)
